A one-day seminar on human rights was held at Raja Lakhamagouda Law College in Belagavi, led by NHRC Director Lieutenant Colonel Virender Singh. The Karnataka Law Society’s Raja Lakhamagouda Law College held a one-day seminar in Belagavi on October 26, focusing on human rights. Inaugurated by NHRC Director Lieutenant Colonel Virender Singh, the seminar’s theme was ‘A journey from the First Generation to the Fourth Generation Human Rights — Conflicts and Issues emerging due to Multiplication of Rights and Future Challenges.’ During his address, Singh emphasized the fundamental nature of human rights: the necessity to value and respect each other’s rights. He urged individuals to recognize the prevalence of inequality and the need for ongoing efforts to create a more equitable society. By fostering respect for each other’s rights, we can collectively influence positive change. Singh called on the youth to cultivate a practice of equality and to ensure that institutions provide essential resources for future generations. The seminar was organized in partnership with the National Human Rights Commission, with active participation from the college’s IQAC wing. Advocate Ravindra S. Mutalik, a member of the college’s Governing Council, highlighted the responsibility of each individual to advocate for and protect human rights, underscoring the dynamic nature of these rights which aim to deliver justice for all. Sandeep Desai, Dean of Amity Law School, enlightened students on adult franchise and narrated the evolution of human rights from the first to fourth generation. The seminar also featured around 40 delegates who presented research papers, enriching the discourse on human rights and the emerging complexities they entail.
