The Nightjet night train service between Berlin and Brussels will cease operations starting from the end of March due to urgent construction work in Germany, Austria, and France. Austrian Railways (ÖBB) operates this service connecting many of Europe’s key cities, but with this cancellation, passengers can seek refunds via their customer service.
From 26 March onward, trains will no longer run from Berlin to Brussels, with the return route stopping on 27 March. An ÖBB spokesperson remarked, “Unfortunately, we have to discontinue the Berlin – Brussels connection” citing both complex construction issues and lower passenger demand.
Despite the Berlin-Brussels cancellation, connections remain robust for daytime travel through Cologne, with the ICE 3neo offering improved reliability. Meanwhile, the Vienna-Brussels Nightjet connection will continue unaffected. Rail expert Mark Smith noted the service’s cancellation was likely influenced by overlapping schedules and infrastructural disruptions.
Additionally, other Nightjet services will experience cancellations and route changes from 27 March to 26 May, affecting connections to Paris and Zurich. Specific trains between Zurich and Hamburg will also reroute over the same period.
Passengers are advised to take daytime services to complete their journeys, as Nightjet tickets will be accepted on other trains. ÖBB extends apologies for these last-minute changes and provides contact information for customer service assistance regarding cancellations and rebookings.
