Dr KCG Verghese International Film Festival: A Cultural Extravaganza in Chennai

In a vibrant celebration of global cinema, the Indo Cine Appreciation Foundation, in collaboration with the Taipei Economic and Cultural Center in Chennai and the Iran Culture House of Mumbai, is hosting the Dr KCG Verghese International Film Festival. This immersive event will showcase four feature films—two from Taiwan and two from Iran—allowing Chennai students to witness unique cultural narratives through the lens of international filmmakers.

Renowned filmmaker Ashwath Marimuthu will grace the occasion as chief guest, accompanied by notable figures including Richard CL Chen, director-general of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Center in Chennai, and Bejoy Arputharaj, the CEO-founder of PhantomFX. E Thangaraj, from the Indo Cine Appreciation Foundation, expressed excitement about guiding the college’s initiative, emphasising the artistic value of the showcased films, all of which are non-commercial and exhibit the exceptional work of celebrated Taiwanese director Hsiao-Hsien Hou.

The festival will feature Taiwanese masterpieces “A Time to Live” and “A Time to Die,” along with “Dust in the Wind,” complemented by the Iranian films “In the Arms of the Tree” and “Sima’s Unfinished Narration.” Thangaraj notes the significance of such exposure for media students in enhancing their technical skills, as watching international films provides insight into craftsmanship that transcends the conventional syllabus.
