Kulubayev acknowledged the UN’s role in bolstering democratic institutions within Kyrgyzstan. He proudly stated that the nation has been welcomed back to the UN Human Rights Council (UNHRC) for a third time, a testament to international recognition of its progress in human rights.
Highlighting Kyrgyzstan’s active engagement in the UNHRC, Kulubayev referenced the notable resolution, “Informing the Human Rights Council on the program of human rights advisers,” which Kyrgyzstan spearheaded and was adopted in 2024. This initiative is pivotal in empowering smaller nations to enhance their human rights frameworks.
The Minister further elaborated on ongoing reforms aimed at refining criminal legislation and overhauling the judicial and law enforcement systems while enhancing social programs, especially those benefiting women and children.
Volker Türk praised Kyrgyzstan’s regional leadership in human rights advocacy, underscoring the significance of promoting freedom of speech and nurturing a robust civil society. He pledged the continued backing of the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) in strengthening the rule of law and protecting fundamental rights. They mutually agreed to enhance collaborative efforts to fortify the capabilities of Kyrgyzstan’s state bodies in safeguarding human rights.
