Azerbaijan has initiated a series of vital events aimed at raising awareness about mental health and human rights. These events, organised by the Human Rights Commissioner’s Northern and North-Western regional centres, took place at the Guba Inter-District Psychoneurological Centre and the Sheki District Psychiatric Hospital, as reported by Azernews.
The gatherings stressed the importance of safeguarding the rights of those enduring mental health challenges, underscoring this as a fundamental focus of the Ombudsman’s work. Attendees were informed about the initiatives taken to bolster mental health rights, including the formation of a dedicated working group on “Mental Health and Human Rights” introduced by the Commissioner.
Furthermore, participants gained insights into recent amendments to the Constitutional Law pertaining to the Ombudsman, the role of the Ombudsman as a National Preventive Mechanism, the “916” Call Center, and the relevant provisions of the Law on Psychiatric Assistance. Participants had the opportunity to engage and voice their inquiries during the sessions.
