Take a moment to reflect on your furry companions. They’re likely engaged in playful antics at home, eager for your return. However, not all pets enjoy such a fortunate lifestyle. Many animals languish in Baton Rouge shelters, waiting for a forever home, while the rising costs of medical care burden pet owners. Furthermore, the lack of education about responsible pet ownership can lead to unfortunate accidents.
Paws for Grace emerges as a beacon of hope for our four-legged friends and the community. Founded in the memory of Grace, a beloved chocolate brown pup who sadly succumbed to heat exhaustion, Tanya Stuart set up this nonprofit. Stuart, the co-owner of The Maples and Genesis Behavioral Health Services, recognised the urgent need for such an initiative in Baton Rouge.
To dive deeper into Paws for Grace’s mission, we spoke with Emily Jackson, who serves as the secretary, treasurer, and event coordinator. This organisation is dedicated to funding veterinary care and educating the community about pet safety, with an annual goal of raising $47,000 to support animals in need.
The founders were inspired by Grace’s tragic passing, which underlined the necessity of safeguarding pets from dangers like extreme heat. The organisation’s mission not only revolves around protecting animals but also supporting families facing challenges in caring for their pets. Their commitment is directed towards improving awareness and collaboration with local shelters to ensure every pet receives adequate medical care.
On March 23, Paws for Grace will hold its inaugural fundraising event, the Paws For Grace Picnic at Beauvoir Park. Attendees can look forward to an enjoyable day filled with furry companions, delicious food, a silent auction, and community camaraderie. This event represents a concerted effort to raise funds for local animal shelters and adoption facilities, encouraging community involvement and support for our precious pets.
