On March 6, Imperial Valley College (IVC) launched its first Health and Wellness Fair, aimed at providing students with essential healthcare resources and wellness education. This vibrant event showcased wellness stations, informative resource booths, and workshops focused on various aspects of health, fostering an inclusive atmosphere for physical, mental, and emotional wellness.
Legacy MD Medical Group made significant contributions to the fair by offering complimentary health check-ups, refreshments, and a wealth of educational materials related to health maintenance and access to medical care. Workshops spanned a wide array of topics, including managing stress, mental health awareness, nutrition, exercise, healthcare access, and community health services available to students.
Participants also encountered wellness stations covering social, spiritual, environmental, and physical health, alongside vaccine information. Lupita Castro, Director of Student Health Services at IVC, stressed the necessity of accessible healthcare resources for students: “There is a high need to educate students on the importance of wellness for their academic success… We increase accessibility, breaking barriers and the stigma around mental health.”
Beyond the fair, Legacy MD continued to support student wellness throughout the year, collaborating with IVC to ensure essential health and counselling services are available to enrolled students. The IVC Student Health Center, bolstered by Legacy MD, offers varied services, including counselling for anxiety, illness visits, basic first aid, and health screenings.
Dr. John Strong, Chief Medical Officer of Legacy MD, spoke on the importance of investing in student health: “Young people are our future, and providing them with the resources to take care of themselves today sets the foundation for a healthier tomorrow.” Legacy MD remains dedicated to ensuring IVC students have access to healthcare resources daily, not only during the wellness fair.
