Hajizadeh and Doudkanlou Milan were apprehended in Salmas itself, while Valilou Ghezelbash faced arrest in the nearby village of Gwezak. All three were taken into custody by agents from the Intelligence Organisation of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) and subsequently detained in a facility operated by this military-security body.
During their initial 10 days in a security detention centre, they were subjected to rigorous interrogation sessions. Family contact and legal counsel were denied, leaving them isolated in their struggle, until they were moved under temporary detention orders to Salmas Prison—an extension of their confinement that has now been enacted once more.
