Beirut Economics Seminar Series: Bridging Academic Insights and Policy Dialogue

The Beirut Economics Seminar Series is an initiative launched by the American University of Beirut (AUB) and the Lebanese American University (LAU) to cultivate academic collaboration. This platform unites economists, researchers, and policymakers from various institutions to foster discussions on significant economic issues that impact Lebanon and the broader region.

The seminar series aims to provide a vibrant environment for scholars to engage critically on topics ranging from macroeconomics to socioeconomic inequality. Recently, two successful sessions occurred, with a third round of discussions anticipated for March 2025, aiming to deepen intellectual exchanges and foster robust dialogue among peers.

The inaugural seminar, “The Impact of Education on Values,” held at AUB featured Ishac Diwan, a notable economics professor and researcher. The second seminar at LAU showcased Theocharis N. Grigoriadis, who examined radicalization in the Russian Empire, enlightening attendees on historical influences shaping present-day conflicts.

Looking ahead, the third seminar will feature Branko Milanovic, a distinguished expert on global economic inequality. His session, scheduled for March 11, 2025, at the AUB campus, promises to provide deep insights grounded in his extensive research, sparking critical reflections on socioeconomic disparities across the globe.

AUB and LAU’s collaboration through the Beirut Economics Seminar Series underscores a commitment to elevate academic discourse in the region. By welcoming scholars and policymakers from the Greater Beirut area, the series aspires to instil informed decision-making and invigorate discussions around essential economic topics.

The Beirut Economics Seminar Series, launched by AUB and LAU, promotes academic collaboration among economists and policymakers.
