India Celebrated as Theme Country at Asia Pacific Cultural Centre’s New Year Celebration

In a vibrant celebration at Tacoma Dome, India’s cultural richness took centre stage as it was heralded as the theme country for the 27th Annual New Year Celebration of the Asia Pacific Cultural Centre (APCC). This historic event marked APCC’s first time highlighting India, showcasing its incredible heritage through a kaleidoscope of traditional dance forms such as Bharata Natyam, Kuchipudi, Bhangra, Garba, Odissi, and Silambam, which enchants audiences with their intricate movements and vivid colours.

With the air filled with anticipation, over fifty elected officials from across Washington, including US Congress Representatives and the Lieutenant Governor, gathered to partake in this cultural extravaganza. The festivities opened with a traditional Indian prayer invocation, setting a respectful tone. The Consul General of India in Seattle presented each esteemed guest with Indian tri-colour stoles, symbolising unity and appreciation for India’s cultural contributions.

Moreover, the celebration featured an enchanting photo exhibition titled “India through Tim’s Eyes”, showcasing India’s iconic landmarks captured by Seattle photographer Tim Durkan during his travels. This visual journey added depth to the festivities, inviting attendees to appreciate the beauty and history of India. APCC, established in 1996, continues to foster cross-cultural understanding and representation of nearly 47 distinct cultures from the Asia-Pacific region in Washington State, enriching the community with its diverse events.
