Explore Wellness at the Center for Healthy Living
The UNMC Center for Healthy Living is dedicated to fostering a culture of wellness on campus, encouraging recreation, personal wellbeing, and an active lifestyle. This February, numerous special events are on the calendar, inviting the community to engage and explore health options.
Open House: February 5-7
From February 5-7, the center welcomes the UNMC and Nebraska Medicine communities to an open house. Attendees can enjoy guided tours showcasing the facility’s amenities, including the cardio room, weight room, gymnasium, and diverse fitness classes. According to the center, tours run from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day and last about 20 minutes; everyone is welcome to attend.
Free Fitness Classes
During the open house, visitors can participate in a variety of free fitness classes, including Total Body Fitness, Hatha Yoga, HIIT, and Cardio Step, among others. “Free popcorn will also be served daily between 11 a.m. and 5 p.m.,” reports the Center for Healthy Living, enhancing the open house experience with a tasty treat.
February Personal Training Specials
This month also features exciting personal training offers. New members who join in February are eligible for a complimentary month of membership upon signing up for a personal training consultation and completing at least four sessions. Current members enjoy a waived $40 consultation fee when they sign up for the same training plan, according to the center.
Participate in the Healthy Habit Challenge
Kickstart healthy routines by joining the six-week Healthy Habit Challenge beginning February 10. Participants select a wellness habit to improve, facilitated through weekly accountability checks. As reported by the center, this initiative aims to support successful habit formation, with participants entered into a prize raffle. Registration is free and open until February 9.
Intramural Sports Registration
For those interested in team sports, registration for spring intramural basketball, futsal, pickleball, and volleyball is now open until February 16. The intramural leagues are designed for everyone involved with UNMC and Nebraska Medicine, including staff, students, and their families. As reported, participation does not require a Center for Healthy Living membership, making it accessible for all.
