Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu kicked off the Winter Carnival in Manali at Manu Rangshala, marking the start of a vibrant five-day National-Level Sharad-utsav. “Art, culture, and traditions present a rich legacy of Himachal, and events like this are crucial for preserving it for future generations,” he expressed while offering prayers for the well-being of the state. Dubbed the “Heart of Himachal,” Manali is set to receive significant investment to develop its tourism infrastructure. An Asian Development Bank-funded project will allocate Rs. 150 crore for initiatives like a new wellness center and refurbishing the historic Naggar Castle, along with plans for an ice skating rink and additional facilities to ease traffic congestion in this popular tourist town.
Infrastructure Developments and Incentives
Sukhu announced Rs. 15 crore for a new bridge linking Rangdi to the left bank, easing traffic flow at Manali’s entrance. Other improvements include a hot water bathing facility and a nature park to enhance visitor experiences. Moreover, he increased incentives for local women’s groups participating in the event to Rs. 30,000, underscoring their role in conserving traditional culture.
Celebrating Winter Sports
The Chief Minister took time to honor winners of the Ski Mountaineering Competition, an initiative aimed at promoting winter sports. Among the female participants, Sakshi Thakur emerged victorious, while Hira Lal captured first place in the men’s category. The excitement of the cultural evening was further amplified when Sukhu entertained the crowd by singing a popular Hindi song.

As he mingled along Mall Road, Sukhu interacted with both locals and tourists, immersing himself in the festive atmosphere. MLA Bhuvneshwar Gaur expressed gratitude to the Chief Minister for approving numerous development projects aimed at enhancing infrastructure and amenities in Manali.
