Introducing a New Column: Health & Wellness in Annandale Today

Here it is, folks! Introducing our brand new column, “Health & Wellness,” right here in Annandale Today. I’m Rachel Martin, your friendly face in the community, and I’ll be your guide on this journey toward better health and well-being. For many years, our paper has been a lifeline for local news, and it’s about time we focus on improving our health here in Annandale.

As a lifelong Annandale resident, I also wear the hat of owner of Connection Wellness Center. That’s a personal training studio tucked away on John Marr Drive, where fitness meets fun in a non-threatening environment. I’ve had the pleasure of serving our area for over 11 years, supporting folks in their fitness journey, aiding recoveries from injury, and helping to instill those healthy habits that can last a lifetime.

Oh, and by the way, I’m also an author. I recently contributed to the book “Coaching Greatness,” which is loaded with practical advice aimed at helping individuals become the very best version of themselves. In this column, you can expect insights into local health resources, fitness events, and incredible success stories that might just spark your motivation.

I want to take this space to share real, relatable wellness tips—not the glossy trends you might read in the New York Times that often seem far too over-the-top and unrealistic. It’s baffling how national media sets the bar so high that so many people feel inadequate before they even begin.

This column? It’s not about striving for some unattainable ideal. Instead, we’ll focus on down-to-earth strategies to move, recover, and truly thrive right within our own community. And hey, I am eager to hear your stories, too! If there’s a wellness gem you adore, an inspiring health journey of yours, or a local event coming up, please reach out to me. Let’s work together to create a vibrant and healthy Annandale—because, in unity, there’s strength!
