Nurturing Employee Well-being: Our Global Health & Wellness Commitment

In 2021, we established a Global Health & Wellness team dedicated to enhancing our employees’ holistic well-being, encompassing physical, emotional, social, and financial health. As a prominent global financial institution, we prioritise the safety and health of our workforce, cultivating an inclusive workplace where work-life balance thrives through flexible working conditions.

Our People & Culture division’s Global Health & Wellness unit crafts and implements proactive strategies, policies, and guidelines that articulate our commitment to well-being. This includes a comprehensive health, safety, and well-being policy, addressing the essential aspects of occupational risk mitigation.

The BeHealthy initiative championed by Santander promotes healthy lifestyles, offering programmes targeting physical fitness, emotional resilience, social connectivity, and financial stability. This multifaceted approach leads to numerous initiatives including nutrition guidance, mental health support, cancer awareness, cardiovascular health studies, immunisation drives, and diverse training seminars.

Each April, we commemorate a Health and Well-being Day to reinforce our year-round health messages. Activities scheduled in each country and division include virtual medical seminars, sporting events, nutrition workshops, culinary classes, medical check-ups, and vaccination initiatives, all aimed at promoting a healthier lifestyle for our staff.

Recognising the importance of work-life balance in retaining top talent, we offer competitive remuneration combined with health-focused benefits. All employees are entitled to family leave for newborns and adoptions; in 2024, 8,195 took this leave, complemented by 2,824 employees who cared for loved ones. Our global initiatives respect local laws while addressing market-specific needs.

In 2021, we launched a Global Health & Wellness team to enhance the holistic well-being of employees, prioritising safety and work-life balance. The BeHealthy initiative focuses on physical, emotional, social, and financial health through diverse programmes. Annual celebrations and competitive leave policies further promote a supportive work environment that nurtures employee health and family care.

In summary, the establishment of a Global Health & Wellness team underscores our commitment to the holistic well-being of our employees. Through initiatives like BeHealthy and a dedicated focus on work-life balance, we strive to create a supportive and inclusive environment that prioritises health and wellness at every level of the organisation. Our actions speak to the belief that employee well-being is integral to our success and the quality of life we deliver to our workforce.
