Despite the prestige of joining the ULM program, which boasts 16 national championships and three Olympians, Schuster faced challenges. The transition from Germany’s disconnected academic and athletic structure to the integrated system in the U.S. proved tough. “Back home, we have university and then we have sports; they’re not well connected like they are here [in the US],” she explained.
Throughout her journey, Schuster displayed remarkable discipline and resilience, thanks to her supportive family and her idol, mid-distance runner Majtie Kolberg. “My parents have definitely uplifted me; especially my dad. I love how he supports me and the way he goes about things in general,” she shared, alongside admiration for Kolberg’s effortless style on the track.
