The Actors Guild of Nigeria recently held the 2025 “Annual Walk and Wellness Campaign” in Abuja, championing a healthier lifestyle among Nollywood practitioners. President Emeka Rollas highlighted that many actors are facing health challenges linked to their demanding schedules, reinforcing the need for attentive self-care. He urged actors to recognise health warning signs and seek help promptly to prevent emergencies that could lead to severe consequences or death.
Rollas noted that this initiative aims to address the rising health issues within the industry by encouraging actors to embrace proactive health measures, which includes adopting healthy diets and regular exercise routines. With the establishment of this wellness walk three years ago, the frequency of actors seeking online health support has noticeably decreased, suggesting that they are taking the guild’s health recommendations seriously.
The campaign saw simultaneous events across state chapters, featuring medical screenings and mental health discussions. Participants were encouraged to enrol in the guild’s health insurance programme, which facilitates immediate access to medical services. “We go through medical examination to know those whose cases are getting worse” while test kits for various health conditions were available for actors to determine their health status.
FCT Mayor Mercy Aminu expressed her happiness at the turnout and emphasised that this initiative raises awareness about the importance of health among actors. She believes that the tight filming schedules often overshadow health concerns. The guild aims to instill consistent health monitoring habits among its members, suggesting annual check-ups as a minimal commitment.
Actors such as Benedict Johnson praised the initiative, emphasising the importance of knowing one’s health status to prevent sudden health crises, while Empress Njamah encouraged personal responsibility for health. She pointed out that everyone should understand the value of good health as it directly affects their daily lives.
The Walk and Wellness Campaign took place at the Old Parade Ground, showcasing camaraderie among Nollywood actors and their dedication to improved health practices. As the event concluded, it reinforced the guild’s commitment to the well-being of its members and the shared responsibility in fostering a healthier industry.
