Tel Aviv and Berlin Forge New Twin City Partnership

Exciting news for culture and cooperation lovers! Tel Aviv and Berlin are to be officially linked as twin cities, a decision announced by Berlin’s Senate Chancellery. Berlin’s Governing Mayor, Kai Wegner, expressed his elation, stating that this partnership will enhance the longstanding cordial ties, infusing them with renewed vibrancy.

After thorough discussions with Tel Aviv’s mayor, Ron Huldai, a town twinning agreement emerged, set to be formalized during Huldai’s Berlin visit on May 5. Wegner highlighted the importance of this exchange as a united front against rising anti-Semitism, recognising Berlin’s historical responsibility in safeguarding Jewish life.

Wegner emphasised the significance of this partnership in a time of uncertainty, stating, “Especially in these challenging times, we are setting an example for diversity, cohesion and humanity.” He pointed out the sociocultural and economic similarities shared by both cities, which are hubs for youth, creativity, and innovation. Discussions about the potential twinning had previously taken place during Wegner’s visit to Tel Aviv last February. Currently, Berlin boasts 18 city partnerships with a diverse range of cities including Buenos Aires, London, and Beijing.
