Accompanied by UN Advocacy Officer Phuntsok Topgyal, this visit aimed at fostering international solidarity with Tibetans suffering under repressive regimes.
During her visit, Chukki engaged with key personnel at the German Federal Foreign Office as well as Anke Oppermann, a prominent director focusing on religious freedom issues. The discussions highlighted the upcoming celebrations for His Holiness the Dalai Lama’s 90th birthday, helping to promote his teachings on peace and compassion alongside various organisations like ICT Germany and the Tibetan Association of Germany.
She presented His Holiness’s new book “Voice for the Voiceless” during her meetings, addressing Chinese attempts to undermine the recognition of the Dalai Lama’s reincarnation. Furthermore, she brought attention to the deteriorating conditions in Tibet, stressing the increasing suppression of religious freedoms and the threat to Tibet’s unique cultural and linguistic identity posed by Chinese policies.
Chukki expressed gratitude for the German government’s collaborative efforts in issuing a joint statement at the UN Human Rights Council’s 58th session with 27 other European countries, addressing the alarming state of human rights in Tibet. The visit wrapped up on 8 April 2025, with the German officials reaffirming their commitment to supporting liberty and religious freedoms in Tibet, marking a significant step forward for Tibetan advocacy.
