Joerg Koch, the mastermind behind 032c, proudly announces the grand unveiling of 032c Gallery in Berlin. This permanent art venue embraces a semi-traditional gallery approach, featuring an annual programme and rotating exhibitions. It builds upon 032c’s extensive history of curating art in various locations, enriching Berlin’s vibrant art scene.
At the helm are Claire Koron Elat, Managing Editor of 032c, and independent curator Shelly Reich, who will act as Artistic Directors. The gallery’s inaugural exhibition, titled “Productive Narcissism,” is set to launch on September 13, 2024, coinciding with Berlin Art Week, and will run until October 8, 2024.
“Productive Narcissism” delves into the complexities of contemporary identities and personas. Highlighting the constant need for reinvention, the exhibition reflects on how external influences shape our tastes and personalities. Drawing inspiration from Boris Groys’ essay and Todd Haynes’ film “Safe,” it explores the precarious nature of identity in an ever-shifting societal landscape.
The exhibition, brought to life through the support of GATHERING, challenges visitors to consider how our identities intertwine with societal expectations. Groys contends that individuals exist as both artists and art pieces within a society that is in a perennial state of aesthetic and moral flux, while Haynes’ narrative suggests alternate realms of safety that can be equally destructive.
032c Gallery’s launch marks an exciting new chapter in Berlin’s art world. With future exhibits and workshops on the horizon, including collaborations with renowned artists like Jon Rafman and Hugo Comte, the gallery promises to be a hub of artistic exploration and innovation.
