Indianapolis Colts Designated for 2025 NFL Berlin Game

In an exciting announcement, the NFL has declared that the Indianapolis Colts will be the designated team for the inaugural regular season game in Berlin in 2025. This historic event will take place at the Olympic Stadium, a venue steeped in NFL history, previously hosting the American Bowl and NFL Europe’s Berlin Thunder from 2003 to 2007.

Alexander Steinforth, NFL Germany General Manager, emphasised the significance of Germany’s growing NFL fanbase. “Germany is an important market for the NFL, with continued growth in fandom and passion for the game,” he noted, expressing excitement over the Colts’ involvement in this momentous matchup, which marks a noteworthy milestone in the league’s international outreach.

The Colts gained marketing rights in Germany last April through the NFL’s Global Markets Program, designed to expand brand awareness and engage fans beyond U.S. borders. This initiative not only includes a focus on games but also fan engagement activities and commercial opportunities throughout the year.

The League is dedicated to evolving the sport at every level in Germany, fostering year-round interactions with fans via various programmes and initiatives. Additionally, the NFL Flag programme, promoting non-contact football, has seen involvement from 20,000 young participants across Germany, as part of their push towards making flag football an Olympic event by 2028.

Details regarding the Colts’ opponent, along with the game date and kickoff timing, will be unveiled as part of the complete 2025 NFL schedule this spring. In the same year, the NFL is allowed to schedule up to eight international games, with fixtures also planned in London and Madrid.

Among the highlights, the London series will feature games at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, showcasing the New York Jets and Cleveland Browns. The Jacksonville Jaguars are set to host their 14th home game at Wembley. To date, 55 NFL regular season games have been played internationally in cities like London, Munich, and Mexico City, illustrating the League’s commitment to expanding its global footprint. The Colts previously participated in two international games, one in London and another in Frankfurt.
