In a landmark achievement, Egypt has embraced the Amman-Berlin Declaration on Global Disability Inclusion, aimed at championing the rights of individuals with disabilities. This momentous declaration was birthed at the Global Disability Summit 2025 in Berlin, which gathered over 3,000 distinguished leaders from around the world.
Maya Morsy, Egypt’s Minister of Social Solidarity, represented the nation at this pivotal summit, where an overwhelming 120 countries and international organisations endorsed the declaration. A significant aspect of this initiative is encapsulated in the motto “15 percent for the 15 percent,” advocating for the inclusion of at least 15% of international development programs to support persons with disabilities, reflecting their representation in the global population, as noted by the World Health Organization.
Moreover, the declaration emphasises the critical inclusion of individuals with disabilities in global development programs, promoting equality and non-discrimination. It aligns with the goals of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD), focusing on fostering international cooperation for inclusive and sustainable development.
In a show of commitment, Egypt has also vowed to promote the “Living Independently” initiative over the next three years, aiming to enhance the rights and societal integration of persons with disabilities.
