“I want to emphasize the safe part, because a lot of people get concerned, but Berlin is extremely, extremely safe,” Goeti assured, providing reassurance about the city’s welcoming nature.
The convenience of CIEE’s compact campus, with classes and dorms located together, was a highlight for Goteti. “You just roll out of bed and walk downstairs,” she stated, appreciating the ease of access.
Support is readily available for N.U.in students through dedicated coordinators, who foster a familial atmosphere and guide students through their transition. Goteti fondly recalled an introductory walking tour around Kreuzberg, organised by her coordinator, that introduced her to her new home.
Adjusting to life in Berlin involved some challenges, such as cooking their meals since there were no dining halls provided. Students like Goteti utilised community kitchens, making meals together in the evenings.
After an initial week of orientation, classes commenced, primarily focused on business studies with a narrower selection of subjects offered. “The courses had good content,” Goteti shared, although the range was limited.
Living in Berlin offered Goteti a unique and memorable experience. She thrived while exploring the city’s extensive history. “Berlin is a very English-friendly, American-friendly city, and most of the people I talked to were really nice,” she reflected. Remarkably, during her stay, she travelled to Switzerland, Hungary, and Sweden, all easily accessible within a short flight from Berlin.
