This figure marks an upswing from 3,061,809 tickets sold in 2023, though it hasn’t yet reached the pre-pandemic peak of 3,315,161 in 2019.
The vibrant Friedrichstadt-Palast led the way as the foremost attraction, bringing in over 549,000 visitors—an increase from 458,713 the previous year. Following closely, the Deutsche Oper Berlin drew nearly 254,270 attendees, a rise from 243,649 in 2023. This trend of increasing numbers was also seen in other prominent theatres.
The Berliner Ensemble welcomed 176,730 visitors, an increase of nearly eight per cent, while the Deutsches Theater recorded 148,878 attendees, up from 143,022. In contrast, the Rundfunk-Orchester und -Chöre GmbH experienced a slight decline, with 180,252 visitors compared to 197,475 in the previous year. Senator for Culture Joe Chialo (CDU) praised 2024 as a “successful year,” appreciating the dedication of those involved in Berlin’s rich cultural scene.
Berlin’s theatres and orchestras saw a surge in ticket sales in 2024, attracting over 3.27 million visitors, a notable increase from 2023’s figures. The Friedrichstadt-Palast and Deutsche Oper Berlin emerged as significant drawcards, while other theatres also enjoyed increased audience numbers. Despite slight losses for some, the cultural sector is viewed positively by officials.
