During his visit, President Xi engaged with locals, discussing flower varieties and market dynamics, and noting that some villagers earn upwards of 7,000 yuan during peak seasons.
Xi highlighted the crucial role of distinctive industries in revitalising rural areas, pointing out Yunnan’s ideal climate and its nickname as the “plant kingdom.” The province’s flower sector has become the largest globally, with a vast planting area of 1.95 million mu, generating 20.6 billion flowers and employment for more than 380,000 people.
Additionally, Xi explored the Old Town of Lijiang, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, where he observed the balance between cultural preservation and tourism development. Last year, tourism flourished, with 17.05 million visitors from January to September, indicating a 13.07% increase year-on-year, which significantly bolstered the local economy.
