FAI Rent-A-Jet Advances Fleet Renewal While Closing Berlin MRO Facility

FAI Rent-A-Jet, based in Nuremberg, is embarking on a significant fleet renewal initiative. This transformation will see the retiring of its current fleet of four Learjet 60s, six Challenger 604s, and five Global Express jets, replaced by modern models: Learjet 60XRs, Challenger 605s, and Global 6000s. At the same time, FAI has unveiled the closure of its maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) facility located in Berlin Brandenburg.

In a recent announcement, FAI confirmed the introduction of its second Learjet 60XR, designated D-CFAQ (manufacturing serial number 60-328), which will take the place of one of the existing Learjet 60s. The company is committed to fully replace its Learjet 60 fleet with XR-series models within the next two years, while also seeking options for Challenger 605s and Global 6000s to succeed their Challenger 604 and Global Express jets.

The closure of the Berlin Brandenburg MRO was prompted by unsuccessful discussions with the airport regarding the procurement of land for a new hangar. Meanwhile, FAI’s MRO facility in Nuremberg will still cater to clients based outside Berlin.

Siegfried Axtmann, founder and group chairman, expressed regret: “Regrettably, our requirement for a brand-new MRO facility at BER in the near future was not feasible. The existing structure, which dates back to post Second World War times, no longer met our expectations, nor those of our customers.” He further indicated that the increased lease fees and the quest for a long-term leasing agreement rendered continued operations at BER impractical.

FAI Rent-A-Jet is renewing its fleet by replacing older models with the latest Learjet, Challenger, and Global Express variants. Concurrently, the company is closing its Berlin Brandenburg MRO facility after unsuccessful negotiations for a new hangar. The Nuremberg facility will continue to operate despite this change.

FAI Rent-A-Jet is strategically renewing its fleet with advanced aircraft while discontinuing its MRO services in Berlin due to unfavourable negotiation outcomes. The firm is transitioning towards modern jets, aiming for a complete fleet transformation in the coming years. The closure of the Berlin facility marks a significant shift for FAI, who will continue to serve clients from Nuremberg instead.
