In a vibrant move towards enhancing wellness and team spirit, the Mission and Installation Contracting Command (MICC) launched its inaugural Wellness Wednesday on March 19, 2025. This lively initiative, offering both in-person and virtual walking contests, invites participants to embark on a journey of health and fitness. Its primary aim is to foster teamwork within the MICC while nurturing resilience and readiness in the contracting sphere.
Command Sgt. Maj. JennyAnne Bright and Deputy Commander Clay Cole led the event, which will unfold monthly as an opportunity to engage in diverse fitness activities. Bright expressed the vision: “Once a month we will have our Wellness Wednesday events to focus on fitness and wellness.” Future sessions are expected to cover yoga, strength training, nutrition, and health checks, transforming the concept of wellness into an energetic pursuit.
The event kicked off with the launch of MICC’s 250 Walk-It-Out-Wednesday, where participants challenge themselves to collectively log 250 miles in running or walking each Wednesday until June 14, commemorating the Army’s 250-year legacy. Over fifty attendees participated in person, with numerous teams registering for this health initiative, collectively honouring the Army’s rich history while striving for a shared goal.
Bright highlighted the significance of the initiative, noting, “Each Wednesday is the opportunity for us to earn our miles,” aiming for full participation from all MICC personnel across the country. The command embraces a legacy that has been instrumental in supporting Army missions and sustaining forces, affirming a commitment to physical wellness as part of everyday routines.
To facilitate this, personnel are encouraged to use breaks or lunchtime for physical activity. Those wishing to dedicate more time to fitness can join the command’s health programme, allowing for up to three hours a week. MICC’s Wellness Coordinator, Simba Gentry, emphasizes the guidelines available through the MICC Civilian Fitness Program Command Policy, ensuring employees are informed on how to participate effectively.
Cole welcomed participants, sharing personal insights into the necessity of maintaining fitness post-retirement from a military career. Leading the walk around the Historic Long Barracks, he highlighted the importance of not only staying fit but also enjoying the journey together. He remarked, “It is important that we keep our fitness up and just have a good time while we are doing it.”
