Their shared commitment to highlighting the region’s rich past was evident during his tour of the display.
Expressing pride in their collaboration, Shaikh Khalifa noted, “We take great pride in our collaboration with Louvre Abu Dhabi and in showcasing Bahraini artefacts at the first universal museum in the Arab world.” He emphasised that the display of these artefacts illustrates the importance of cultural partnerships within the Gulf to recount the stories of bygone civilisations.
Emphasising the significance of each piece, Shaikh Khalifa highlighted how this exhibition allows both local and international visitors to explore Bahrain’s historical narrative, especially the bustling commerce during the Dilmun and Tylos periods.
Al Mubarak echoed similar sentiments, stating, “Collaboration and a united vision are essential for preserving and promoting the invaluable shared heritage of the Gulf region.” He acknowledged the collaborative efforts of both institutions for enlightening audiences about their shared roots and traditions.
Noteworthy items in the collection include a distinctive Tylos-period tombstone, an early Dilmun strainer jar, and two important Dilmun seals. The seals, pivotal to the commercial scene, symbolised status and ownership, beautifully crafted from stone or marine shell, showcasing the exquisite artistry of Dilmun.
The featured Dilmun filter jar attests to an early mastery of pottery, uniquely blending clay and limestone to create both practical and beautiful items, a craft still cherished in Bahrain today.
The tombstone exemplifies how Tylos sculpture evolved under Hellenistic influence, reflecting Bahrain’s cultural tapestry and diverse historical narratives during this era.
