The Secretariat of the African Commission on Human and Peoples’ Rights has announced a forthcoming Promotion Mission to the Republic of Seychelles, scheduled from 10 to 14 March 2025. This mission is authorised by the Seychellois Government and aims to further the objectives set forth in Article 45(1) of the African Charter on Human and Peoples’ Rights. It will foster discussions around promoting the Charter and assessing human rights conditions therein.
Leading the delegation will be Honourable Commissioner Solomon Ayele Dersso, who oversees human rights in Seychelles, alongside Honourable Commissioner Hatem Essaiem, Chairperson of the Committee for the Prevention of Torture in Africa. They will be backed by personnel from the Secretariat, ensuring robust engagement with various human rights sectors.
During their stay, the delegation will engage with vital human rights stakeholders, including government officials, parliament members, judiciary representatives, police, national institutions, and civil society organisations. This comprehensive approach is designed to gather insights and perspectives on the current human rights landscape in Seychelles.
At the end of their mission, preliminary findings will be presented to relevant government bodies. A press conference will also be organised to share these insights with the media and the public, ensuring transparency and engagement on human rights issues in Seychelles.
