During that earlier detention, Adwai faced two months of stringent interrogation before being released on bail in October 2019. Initially sentenced to five years for purportedly acting against national security, her punishment was reduced to one year after an appeal, although she was re-arrested to serve her term shortly thereafter and released in 2020 during a general amnesty.
Adwai has tirelessly advocated for women’s rights, child protection, and environmental issues in her community. She notably took significant steps in seeking justice for a case of child sexual abuse in the village of Selin, demonstrating her commitment to social justice in the Hawraman region.
