NXT Forum 2025: Luke Coutinho on Harnessing Indian Superfoods for Wellness

At the NXT Forum 2025 in New Delhi, Luke Coutinho, Co-Founder of Luke Coutinho Holistic Healing Systems, passionately presented the transformative benefits of Indian superfoods like Makhana, Moringa, Amla, Turmeric, and Indian Garam Masala. He underscored their vital role in enhancing health and wellness.

Coutinho advocated for mindful eating and balanced nutrition, asserting, “You can never cook healthy food in just ten minutes. If we are to support the Prime Minister’s vision of overcoming obesity, small yet impactful changes matter.” He urged a shift from India’s carbohydrate-heavy diet, emphasising physical activity and a well-rounded macronutrient intake.

He championed the significance of home-cooked meals for their nutritional value, stating, “Prioritize home-cooked meals—what we call ‘garcon Sana,’ or homemade food.” Emphasising cooking as a therapeutic practice, Coutinho advised reducing oil consumption and incorporating healthier cooking methods like steaming and poaching.

Coutinho also highlighted the Fit India Movement led by Prime Minister Modi, which encourages personal health responsibility. He noted, “Our goal is not to complicate fitness but to focus on simple, effective habits.” By incorporating yoga and meditation into daily routines, individuals can significantly boost their well-being, even in reduced timeframes.

Discussing traditional dietary practices, Coutinho praised the UN’s declaration of 2023 as the International Year of Millets, emphasising that India is the leading producer, contributing 38.4% of global production. He explained that the issue lies in poor-quality carbs, not all carbohydrates being harmful, and stressed the need for balanced diets devoid of excessive “junk” food.

Coutinho elaborated on millets as nutritious, gluten-free alternatives rich in fibre and low glycaemic index—perfect for those managing diabetes. “Millets support digestion, promote healthy weight management, and enhance cognitive function,” he highlighted, mentioning various types of millets integral to Indian cuisine.

At the NXT Forum 2025, Luke Coutinho emphasised the importance of Indian superfoods like Makhana and Amla for health and wellness. He highlighted mindful eating, balanced nutrition, and the need for home-cooked meals. Coutinho also discussed the nutritional value of millets and their role in combating dietary imbalances in India, advocating for holistic health practices and personal responsibility for fitness.

Coutinho’s address at the NXT Forum reinforced the power of Indian superfoods and traditional dietary practices for enhanced well-being. He championed mindful eating, balanced nutrition and urged a return to home-cooked meals while recommending millets as beneficial alternatives in our diets. Advocating for holistic health, he aligned his message with the goals of the Fit India Movement and emphasised the significance of embracing India’s nutritional heritage.
