AMMAN – Jordan has once again reaffirmed its commitment to disability rights through proactive leadership, as highlighted by Khalil Abdallat, Director of the Prime Ministry’s Human Rights Department. Speaking at a specialised training session, he underscored the Kingdom’s dedication to protecting the rights of persons with disabilities, reinforced by the vision of His Majesty King Abdullah, which places Jordan in a prominent role on the global stage.
The gathering, held in partnership with the Higher Council for the Rights of Persons with Disabilities and various UN agencies, convened national and international stakeholders to deliberate on the evolving landscape of disability rights. Abdallat emphasised the significant progress Jordan has made in advancing disability rights, with King Abdullah and HRH Crown Prince Hussein leading the charge. The Kingdom has successfully established legislative frameworks that adhere to international norms, promoting justice, equality, and inclusive opportunities for all individuals with disabilities.
The training session was also part of Jordan’s preparations for an upcoming international summit in Berlin, aimed at showcasing the Kingdom’s accomplishments in disability rights. Abdallat indicated that this event would further Jordan’s ambitious vision to redefine and set global standards for rights and inclusion.
He referenced Jordan’s pivotal Disability Rights Law No. 20 of 2017, which marked a crucial step in guaranteeing dignity and equal treatment of persons with disabilities. Abdallat also praised Prince Hussein for his efforts in fostering inclusivity for youth, including those with disabilities, and commended HCD President HH Prince Mired for his leadership in empowering disabled individuals across all societal dimensions.
