On 18 February 2025, Gullas College of Medicine hosted the Indo-Philippines Cultural Education Exchange Summit, celebrating 75 years of diplomatic relations between India and the Philippines. Held at the GCMI Auditorium in Mandaue City, the event bore the theme, “A Union Fostering Global Connections: Integrating Education, Healthcare, Culture, and Tourism for a Sustainable Future.”
A momentous highlight was the unveiling of a statue honouring Thiruvalluvar, the esteemed Tamil poet, symbolising rich Tamil heritage and the historical bonds that unite India with Southeast Asia. This milestone resonates particularly with the burgeoning Indian student community in the Philippines.
The Summit’s significance lies in its celebration of shared history via the Treaty of Friendship, signed on 11 July 1952. Honourable Excellency Harsh Kumar Jain, Indian Ambassador to the Philippines, graced the occasion as chief guest, alongside esteemed attendees such as former President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo and ambassadors from Thailand and Nigeria.
The summit aimed to deepen bilateral relations through cultural exchanges and education in healthcare and tourism. Highlights included opening remarks from Gullas College Vice President Atty. Joseph Baduel and captivating performances from Sakhyam Dance Academy and Lanhing Batangan Dance Troupe.
H.E. Harsh Kumar Jain remarked, “The Indo-Philippines relationship is built on mutual respect, shared values, and a common vision for progress. As we mark 75 years of diplomatic ties, initiatives like the Indo-Philippines Cultural Education Exchange Summit deepen our collaboration in education, healthcare, and culture.”
