Chandigarh is set to enhance healthcare accessibility by introducing ‘Health ATMs’ in each of its 60 Health and Wellness Centres (HWCs). These futuristic machines aim to streamline diagnostic processes, reducing patient wait times, and centralising tests at the HWCs. Currently, prototypes are located in areas including Dadu Majra and Sector 38, awaiting operational status to serve the community.
Initiated as a corporate social responsibility (CSR) project by a tech firm, the Health ATMs promise to deliver various essential diagnostic tests via a fully automated system. Equipped with a biochemical analyser, these machines ensure precision in testing. Dr Suman Singh, Director of Health Services, confirmed that all necessary testing supplies will be provided for a year by the manufacturer. Furthermore, results will be conveniently sent to patients’ mobile phones, streamlining communication and accessibility to health information.
To bolster its healthcare offerings, the Health Department has expanded services at HWCs to include maternal and child healthcare, as well as treatments for infectious diseases and minor ailments. Recent additions to their repertoire comprise basic oral health care, eye and ENT services, elderly care, emergency medical services, screenings, and initial management for mental health conditions. This holistic approach aims to foster a healthier community equipped with comprehensive medical resources.
