As the new semester approaches at UNC Greensboro, students are given the chance to embrace fresh beginnings. It’s the ideal moment to re-evaluate past New Year’s resolutions and set new personal and academic aspirations. Recognising the challenges that come with these transitions, Spartan Well-Being is here to support students, providing complimentary coaching services to help achieve any goals they may aspire to.
“To Learn is To Grow” is a philosophy embraced by Virginia Zell, a Well-Being Specialist and National Board-Certified Health & Wellness Coach. She explains that Spartan Well-Being aims to enhance students’ overall health and wellness through an array of services, including health workshops, outreach events, mental health training, and support groups—all in a serene environment where students can relax and grab a snack.
In the coaching programme, students form a partnership with a certified coach or a peer guide, who collaborates with them on a one-on-one basis using evidence-based methods. The initial step involves assessing the student’s well-being, followed by co-developing actionable strategies to align with their desired lifestyle changes.
Spartan Well-Being offers two key coaching services: Well-Being Coaching and Financial Wellness Coaching. The Well-Being Coaching focuses on health objectives and lifestyle adjustments, covering areas such as goal setting, stress management, self-care practices, and building healthy relationships. In contrast, Financial Wellness Coaching enhances students’ financial literacy, covering budgeting, emergency planning, and financial strategies.
For students with busy schedules, drop-in sessions are conveniently available at Gove Student Health Services from Monday to Friday, from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., or they can opt for virtual sessions. This flexibility allows for improved accessibility as well-being coaches and peer guides act as accountability partners and valued resources.
All discussions during coaching sessions are confidential and fosters an environment free of judgement, empowering students after each interaction. As academic demands increase, having a confidant to share ideas with can be invaluable. To begin this journey, fill out the self-referral form available through Spartan Well-Being services.
