The Human Rights Reporting Gateway is an invaluable tool that holds the promise of accountability for gross violations of human rights by foreign security forces. However, its current underutilization stems largely from a lack of awareness and outreach to key stakeholders abroad. To fulfill its mandate under the Leahy law, the US State Department must prioritize the dissemination of information about the HRG, ensuring it’s accessible and understood globally. Empowering local NGOs and communities with knowledge of the HRG can lead to a surge in reporting and foster a culture of accountability. Now is the moment to breathe life into this initiative, transforming the HRG from a mere digital portal into a vibrant lifeline for victims and advocates worldwide.
