As the festive season draws near, the Whānau Health Centre team at Te Korowai Hauora o Hauraki is making necessary adjustments to accommodate the Christmas and New Year holidays. Clinical Director Dr. Martin Mikaere urges families to review their medication supplies, ensuring they have adequate amounts for this period. If a repeat prescription is needed, it’s wise to request it well before the break begins.

The Whānau Health Centres in Paeroa, Thames, Coromandel, and Whitianga will be closed from December 25 to 27 and January 1 to 3. Despite these closures, enrolled patients can still receive 24-hour medical advice and treatment through Ka Ora Telecare. Practice Manager Mischell Willis emphasizes the availability of essential healthcare despite the holiday closures.

During the holiday season, many health services plan their operational hours, leading to potential gaps in access to medical care. Whānau Health Centres have taken proactive measures to ensure that enrolled patients still receive necessary support during this time. Ka Ora Telecare plays a pivotal role in bridging access to healthcare, offering telehealth consultations even when physical locations are closed. This service is especially designed for urgent medical needs during the festive break, allowing continuity of care.

The Whānau Health Centre encourages thorough preparation ahead of the holidays, especially regarding medication. Although the centres will have limited hours during the festive period, patients will have alternative ways to access healthcare services. Through Ka Ora Telecare, patients can still obtain medical advice, prescriptions, and consultations, ensuring that quality healthcare remains within reach, seamlessly integrating convenience with reliability in this season of celebration.
