The inaugural Public Art Abu Dhabi Biennial (PAAD), launched by the Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi (DCT Abu Dhabi), is transforming the streets of Abu Dhabi and Al Ain into vibrant open-air galleries. Running until April 30, 2025, this event unites over 70 international artists whose work delves into themes of community identity and climate change, inviting locals and visitors alike to engage with art in their everyday environment.
Among the notable installations is Farah Al Qasimi’s “Homesickness,” an auditory piece that envelops viewers in ocean sounds, reflecting the sea’s cultural significance. Seema Nusrat’s “Floating Fragments” symbolizes the impacts of climate change through a submerged house, while Christopher Benton’s work turns the traditional Carpet Souk into an interactive community hub. Immersive experiences are also provided by Afra Al Dhaheri and Wael Al Awar, who challenge perceptions of time, attention, and architectural materiality.
