As the excitement builds for the Paris 2024 Olympics, a precious artifact related to the event is hitting the auction block: a torch from the Olympic flame relay. With an estimated value exceeding 20,000 euros, this torch is one of 2,000 crafted by Arcelor Mittal, a testament to the flame’s historic journey across France. It will be auctioned for the first time in France from December 4 to 6 by the prestigious Beaussant Lefèvre auction house.
The auction will showcase a unique torch, previously held by one of the 11,000 torchbearers who participated in the relay from May 8 to July 26. Auctioneer Arthur de Moras explained that the owner no longer needs the torch and prefers to offer it to an art collector who would cherish it. Indeed, the allure of owning a piece of Olympic history is magnetic, drawing enthusiasts from far and wide.
This particular relic is accompanied by its original relay outfit, adding to its charm and collectible value. The auction house anticipates a selling price between 20,000 and 25,000 euros, although bids could soar beyond that range, thrilling collectors eager to own a piece of Olympic tradition. Previously, similar torches have fetched considerable sums, with one in the U.S. selling for $44,549 back in July, setting a precedent for significant auction outcomes.
