Former Trump Officials Take the Stage at DNC to Support Harris

In a significant twist of political fate, Stephanie Grisham, once a prominent voice in the Trump administration and former press secretary, is poised to take the stage at the Democratic National Convention this week. With a bold declaration of her intention, she aims to rally support for Vice President Kamala Harris, urging fellow Republicans to unite in their stance against the return of Donald Trump to the presidency.

“I never envisioned myself speaking at a Democratic convention,” Grisham admitted candidly. Yet, her firsthand experiences with Trump have ignited a fierce determination within her. “Witnessing the true nature of Donald Trump and the looming threat he represents to our nation has compelled me to speak out,” she stated passionately.

Recalling her tenure in the White House, where she navigated various roles before stepping down in the chaotic aftermath of the January 6 insurrection, Grisham expressed her complex feelings about supporting Harris. Although she acknowledges their differences, she stands resolute in her endorsement, praising Harris’s commitment to defending liberties and embodying honesty and integrity as a leader. NBC News was the first to unveil this unexpected alliance.

Grisham won’t be the lone voice of dissent within the Republican ranks at the convention. Joining her will be Olivia Troye, another former Trump official and national security advisor, who is also slated to deliver remarks. The audience will also hear from notable Republican figures, including John Giles, the mayor of Mesa, Arizona, former Georgia Lieutenant Governor Geoff Duncan, and former Representative Adam Kinzinger, all stepping beyond party lines for the greater cause.

Kinzinger confirmed his participation for Thursday’s proceedings, adding yet another layer to this unfolding narrative of defiance against a common adversary. Meanwhile, at the convention’s opening night, stories erupted from Republicans swaying from their prior allegiance to Trump in favor of supporting Harris. Austin Weatherford, serving as the Republican engagement director for the Harris-Walz campaign, emphasized the initiative’s objective: “This is our ongoing effort to connect with anti-Trump Republicans, reminding them that Trump’s values do not align with their own.”

With President Biden having taken a step back to endorse Harris’ presidential pursuit, the campaign has intensified its outreach to discontented Republicans. Earlier this month, they sought to win over supporters of former UN Ambassador Nikki Haley and moderate Republicans alike, evidenced by their strategic hiring of Weatherford, who previously worked closely with Kinzinger. The convention is set to be a captivating showcase of unity among disparate voices aiming to reshape the political landscape, all against the backdrop of a tumultuous electoral climate.
